Robert Stevenson Smith Baden Powell was the founder of Boys' scout movement. The first experimenta camp was held in England. This scout movement was not much famous for the first five years of its establishment.Francis George Stevens was a British engineer who worked in Public Work Department(PWD) applied the idea of scouting by selecting the school called Christ Church College, Matale. First, he talked to his neighbour, the principal Mr. D. Alfred Jayasinghe of Christ Church College, Matale. Then with the invitation of Mr. D. Alfred Jayasinghe, F.G. Stevens visited the school on a scheduled date and made aware the staff and the students about Baden Powell and Boys' scout movement through a lecture. After his lecture, the students and the staff got an interest and showed their eagerness to include this programme. The students of the school engaged in the programme disregard of races as Buddhist, Tamils, Muslims and Christians. Seven students were the pioneers to plant the Scout movement in Sri Lanka. They are Thambo Nadaraja, Peter Bowlin, K.D. Kotuwegedara, R.B. Kapuwatta, A.M. Hameed, M. Sahabdeen and John Karunarathna who represented the first Sri Lankan Scout troop. In Christ Church, the scout troop was started by Mr. F.G. Stevens but he didn't lead it. Mr. D. Charles Jayasinghe who worked in the Christ Church College, is the brother of the Mr. D. Alfred Jayasinghe lead the troop. According to that fact, the first boys' scout leader of Sri Lanka is Mr. D. Charles Jayasinghe. There was a fullest support of Government and Forces to the Scout troop at the beginning. In 1914, with the first world war Mr. F.G. Stevens transferred to Colombo and Matale district lost his service due to his transfer. Christ Church College Scout troop was carried out continuously. This is mentioned in their old log details. In 1940, Mr. F.G. Stevens visited tis troop as a higher Commissioner. This is included in the school log with his signature. It is also to be said in the log book that, to respect him, that the whole day was spent with him by the students on 03.07.1940. With the development of the school scout troop, the first president of the Sri Lanka, Mr. Willian Gopallawa and the senior lecturer in the University of Colombo, Mr. Dayarohana Athukorala and many other prestige persons have been in the school scout troop as later members. ==Present== The present principal, Mr. T.W. Mediwake is awakening the students on Scouting. The support given by the scouts leaders is very effective to continue the programme. Cub scouting and Scouting is carried out through this effective support. Girls guiding is also actively working in the school. The support given by the Old Scout Association is priceless. In 2012, Mt/ Christ Church College celebrated its century of the boys scout. This pride is belong to all Sri Lankans. 抄文引用元・出典: フリー百科事典『 ウィキペディア(Wikipedia)』 ■ウィキペディアで「First Sri Lankan Scout Troop」の詳細全文を読む スポンサード リンク
